SRINAGAR, Aug 24: As many as 267 development projects were left incomplete during the previous National Conference-Congress coalition Government led by Omar Abdullah, according to the Comptroller and Auditor General of India.
Out of the 267 projects, 194 incomplete projects with a sanctioned cost of Rs 651.92 crore and revised cost of Rs 661.27 crore belonged to Public Works Department (PWD), which spent Rs 487.36 crore on these projects, says a CAG report which was presented in the Assembly in March this year.
The remaining 71 projects which belonged to the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, with a sanctioned cost of Rs 782.33 crore and the revised cost of Rs 809.20 crore, were delayed even after spending Rs 324.87 crore on them.
The CAG reports says that these incomplete projects had a total sanctioned cost of Rs 1458.25 crore which was revised to Rs 1497.07 crore. An amount of Rs 832.44 crore has already been spent on these incomplete projects by March 31, 2014.
The CAG report said that these projects took off during Omar Abdullah's Government and should have been completed during his tenure only.
The half-done projects have deprived the state of intended benefits, the report added. |
