Srinagar, Aug 27: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi slammed J&K's PDP-BJP government on Thursday for what he called ignoring developmental projects started during the UPA rule. Rahul, who was addressing a rally in south Kashmir's Pampore, said the previous UPA government in the Centre had started many developmental projects in J&K. However, according to him, the BJP government in the Centre and J&K government are "deliberately" ignoring all such developmental projects. Citing the example of saffron cultivation in Pampore, Rahul said the UPA government had proposed and initiated several schemes for farmers of J&K, but the Modi government and the state government have completely ignored the proposals and works initiated. He launched a scathing attacked on the PDP-BJP alliance in J&K, terming it an "opportunistic coalition" which in no way would be helpful for the people of the state. "Here people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh feel alienated. They feel that this coalition government here is merely an opportunistic, it is not working any way for them, it has failed," he said. Rahul while interacting with farmers associated with the National Saffron Mission in Pulwam said that saffron growers in Kashmir are "very unhappy" and that farmers of J&K "are also unhappy like in the rest of the country as the government at the Centre is an anti-farmer." While lashing at the Modi government, Rahul termed it a "suit boot ki sarkar," saying "This is the government of only one suit, or, may be a few suits and they are not bothered about anybody else across the country." Rahul said visiting Kashmir was like home coming for him. He said his roots are from Kashmir. "I have a special relation with Jammu and Kashmir as my roots are here. Whenever I come here I feel happy that I am coming home, but I am also sad as people here have faced problems. People died here over the years," Rahul added. Later, Rahul also visited north Kashmir's Sopore town to attend party workers convention. In Srinagar, he met many delegations of people associated with fruit industry, tourism, arts and crafts at the Nehru Guest House and SKICC here. |
