Jammu is national stakeholder in State
Non-representative Hurriyat

Early Times Report
jammu, Aug 27: Pakistani mouthpiece in Kashmir, the Hurriyat Conference A or B and similar other sectarian outfits in the Valley, including JKLF, the other day sung the Pakistani song and claimed that they were the real stakeholders not only in the restive Valley but in Jammu and Ladakh as well. "We represent the general will. We are the true representatives of the people of the State. We will not accept any solution that is not based on our will or that doesn't satisfy us," the Pakistani agents-cum-mercenaries-cum-murderers and disturbers of peace said.
It was good on the part of the Narendra Modi Government, which for the first time drew a red line in August last year, when it told Pakistan in unequivocal terms that its nasty plan to engage with the Hurriyat on the eve of Foreign Secretary level talks between the two countries on August 25 "would jeopardize the initiative". It is rightly said: "Pakistan, for whom such provocations had become par for the course over the years as Governments at the Centre rarely did anything beyond protesting loudly, did not heed the warning. What followed is well known. The fact that Pakistan did not learn any lesson from this and sought to repeat the act a year later the same month, shows that the reality has yet to sink in. And the reality is: For the Modi regime, the Hurriyat is persona non grata in bilateral talks between India and Pakistan".
It is pertinent to mention here that the proper way for the authorities to deal with the seditionists in the Valley, whether hardliners or the so-called moderates, has been a subject of serious discussion and debate over the years in India. "At best, the approach adopted had been muddled; at worst, it was a threat to national security and integrity," said a leading commentator a couple of days ago, and regretted that there were elements in and outside the establishment who considered the Hurriyat leadership relevant. "Nevertheless, a section of the nation's intelligentsia and the political leaderships of the State seemed to believe that constant dialogue with the Hurriyat, even after it made outrageous demands and indulged in anti-national activities, was the good way forward. So, talks kept happening in the midst of various kinds of provocation, including the meetings of Hurriyat leaders with Pakistani representatives in and outside the country which often resulted in statements directly challenging the sovereignty of India," he lamented, and very rightly.
Indeed, this line has not helped the peace process to move forward. Instead, it has hampered the process and increased in the eyes of the aggressive and untrustworthy Pakistani establishment the credibility of the Hurriyat leaders who, despite not having contested a democratically-held elections in Jammu & Kashmir, masquerade as true representatives of the people of the State and say that they are stakeholders in discussions on Jammu & Kashmir between India and Pakistan. Their bluff needs to be called. These handfuls of traitors could not be considered stakeholders, as they represent Pakistan and a minority view in the State.
The real stakeholders in the State are the people of Jammu region and Ladakh who have been representing the Indian nation in the State since ages and suffering and making supreme sacrifices in the process. It is because of their timely, bold and determined nationalist interventions that the nation has been able defeat the anti-national moves. They have proved by their deeds, words and supreme sacrifices that they are the real stakeholders in the State and that they shall not leave any stone unturned to promote the national cause in the State even if this role warrants more sufferings and more sacrifices. There is no doubt that the people of Jammu region and Ladakh have been fighting ideological war in the State for the nation. What they did between October 1947 and August 1953, in 1977, in 1998, in 2008 and between April and August 5 this year constitute only five of the several such instances which serve to prove that Jammu and Ladakh constitute the nation's backbone in this strategically important State of Jammu & Kashmir. Hence, they, and not the fanatics in Kashmir, are the actual stakeholders.
The other stakeholders in the State are the victims of fanaticism. They are refugees from West Pakistan, refugees from Pakistan-occupied-Jammu & Kashmir and internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus. And their number is more than 1.5 million.
It is hoped that New Delhi would appreciate these stakeholders and representatives of the Indian nation in Jammu & Kashmir and take steps to strength their claim.
