jammu, Aug 28: After the Tourism Development Authorities (TDAs) in the state failed to provide better road connectivity to the tourist destinations, the State Government has handed over the macdamisation work to Public Works Department.
The government after realizing the importance of better road connectivity to tourist destinations had asked the Tourism Department to macadamize the roads leading to main tourist destinations.
"All Development Authorities of the Tourism Department were assigned the job of the executing the work of macdamisation, repair and maintenance of roads as soon as possible. But most of the authorities failed to execute the work," sources told Early Times.
The tourist destinations like Mansar-Surinsar, Patnitop, Shudmahadev, Sanasar etc are facing neglect. Initially the work was taken up by the TDAs, but after they failed, the work was handed over to the PWD which is now executing it.
The work of macdamization was lingering for the last many years, but Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed intervened in the issue and ordered creating better, high class facilities and exploiting new tourism destinations in the state.
The government has also sanctioned additional Rs 100 crore as special plan for the work, and to ensure quality work, government has appointed a third party monitoring agency to supervise it.
For the durability of roads, the executing agency has been issued directives to macdamise road with 100mm thickness.
