Border residents feel cheated by BJP: All promises remained only on papers

ABDULLIAN, Aug 28: Killings of civilians on the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) are going unabated due to shelling from Pakistani side and the border residents are anxiously waiting to exhibit "56 Inches Chest" to Pakistan as it was promised during 2014 Parliamentary election campaign. Since May 2014 after formation of the nationalist government headed by Narendra Modi over 100 cease-fire cases have been occurred on the LoC and IB. It is observed that poundering shelling and mortars on Indian side has become a policy decision for Pakistani establishment because targeting civilian population has become a routine affair.
During campaign of Parliamentary elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was then BJP's prime ministerial candidate, had promised to adopt "tit for tat" policy against Pakistan but it observe that policy is yet to be announced. And another aspect, BJP had promised to provided alternative shelters to border residents are safer places but the promised remained only on papers even after passing of one year and three months after formation of BJP government at the Centre.
After repeated intervals BJP leaders have been announcing that every soon a comprehensive package for border residents would be announced but the helpless border people have yet to see light of that package.
Today three people including two women, were killed and over 17 others were injured when Pakistani Rangers heavily shelled civilian areas and Army posts along the International Border in R S Pura and Arnia sectors of Jammu district on Friday, drawing retaliation from the BSF. "Pakistan Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing. Initially small arms were used but later on mortars bombs were shelled on BSF posts and civilian areas in R S Pura and Arnia sectors since midnight", a BSF spokesman said. The firing and mortar shelling started around 0145 hours along the IB in Kishanpur, Jora Form, Jugnu Chak, Nawapind, harna, Sia, Abdullian and Chandu Chak areas, a police officer said.
