Srinagar, Aug 30: An the first anniversary of the dreadful deluge of, the government is caught in a tight spot as the flood victims of the devastating September floods are yet to be fully rehabilitated and compensated for the huge losses.
The ruling coalition of PDP and BJP, earlier promised to provide succour to the flood hit people of the state but as one year of the devastating nature's fury has passed, no major decision vis-a-vis any comprehensive flood relief package has been provided to the victims at large.
There is even a stoic silence being witnessed within the dispensation as the government has preferred to remain tight lipped and not to stir hornet's nest by making any uncalled for statements regarding the one year of the devastating floods.
There is also a major concern dominating the ruling camp as the opposition parties including NC and Congress are gearing up to corner the government over its failure in compensating the flood victims of Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources revealed that the PDP held its recent meet lead by its senior leaders wherein the issue of tackling the forth coming crises was discussed at threadbare. The meet, as per sources, convened at the residence of one of the senior PDP leader, in unanimity resolved not to issue any statement about the relief and rehabilitation process and to maintain silence as much as they can.
However, a senior party leader said while pleading anonymity that the major concern for the party is to tame its parliament member of Srinagar, Tariq Hameed Qarra who earlier trained guns against the central government, while asking his party to visit its decision of joining hands with the BJP. "Qarra is indeed a concern. We want him to remain silent over this issue. There has been no progress over any relief package as one year of the floods will complete on September 7. We are apprehensive that Qarra may raise pitch against the delay- something which the party at present doesn't want," said one of the PDP leaders.
It was informed further that the government is already in a tight spot after Khandey’s exit from the dispensation and the flood anniversary has become a worrisome entity for the entire ruling camp- PDP and BJP. "It was an embarrassment for the government that Khandey existed with the frowned head. It has somehow punctured the claims of holding an able administration. At the same time, when there is not even a single package of relief given to the flood victims, the government has to remain ready for the jibes," sources said.
Meanwhile, there are already the statements coming out from the desk of separatists and opposition political parties in which the government is targeted like never before. What remains to be seen is how the present regime would manage to tame the crises which virtually are knocking its door at present.
