Anantnag, Aug 30: District Health authorities have finally given their nod to much awaited proposal of shifting of Maternity and Childcare hospital from congested Sherbagh-Anantnag.
Medical superintendent, Dr G M Bhat had submitted the proposal of relocating the hospital to Chief Medical Officer, Anantnag after Deputy Commissioner sought the same from the health Department.
Sources said that Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Muneer-ul-Islam after taking over had decided to take some people friendly initiatives among which the shifting of hospital figures was his top priority.
"Not only Anantnag residents but people hailing from several other districts including Rambhan, Kulgam and Shopian are also demanding shifting of the hospital because of the congestion and narrow approaching roads and lanes.

"So it seems the DC has understood the gravity of the issue and taking a call on it will definitely provide relief to common masses," an official told Early Times. The Medical Superintendent confirmed to Early
Times that he has Okayed the proposal. "We received a letter from DC Anantnag asking us to submit a proposal regarding shifting of hospital to other location. Chief Medical Officer Anantnag conveyed a meeting, me and Medical superintendent District Hospital Anantnag attended the meeting. In the meeting I suggested them that we should go ahead and relocate the hospital if we are getting adequate space, building somewhere else," Medical superintendent M&CH Anantnag, Dr G M Bhat. He said that it will be suitable to shift the hospital to Rehmat-e-Aalam hospital in the interests of public. "I okayed it from my side. What is wrong in shifting the hospital from congested locality when we are geeting 30 Kanals of land that too free of cost and building in which we can start more units," he added. Chief Medical Officer Anantnag was not available for a comment as he avoided repeated calls.
Anantnag residents since last year are demanding authorities to relocate the hospital building which Fire and Emergency Services Department has reportedly declared unsafe and 'Early Times' continues to support the demand of general public by publishing the news reports without bending under any pressure.
Pertinently, the hospital was relocated to an old district hospital building Janglat-Mandi Anatnag in January this year, however due to political influence hospital has brought back to Sherbagh building which lacks key facilities particularly space. The order to shift the MCH was issued by the Directorate of Health Services to Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in April 2014.
