Jammu, Aug 30: Notwithstanding Prime Minister Narender Modi's "Beti Padhao Beti Bachao" campaign, the illegal abortions of baby girls are alleged to be on the rise in certain clinics of Kathua town with impunity from law. One such clinic, which runs from a building resembling a house in Kathua town, is owned by an influential person, who is alleged to be having a vast network of contacts in police and politics. Patients were being referred to this clinic from Jammu and the bordering Punjab, official sources alleged. "Commission is fixed from a peon to a doctor. Rs 1,000 are charged for filling the form. For abortion of the baby girl, Rs 15,000 are charged," the sources alleged, claiming that almost all in the town, including local police and "others" who matter, were aware of the thriving illegal abortion business in the clinic. Most of the abortions were allegedly being performed by a lady doctor who "visits the clinic every morning", sources alleged. |
