Early Times Report

Kathua, Aug.31: The District Hospital (DH) Kathua catering the needs of lakhs of patients from across the district besides the floating population of pilgrims coming to state itself is limping due to lack of basic infrastructure and faulty radio diagnostic gadgets which further are exaggerating the miseries of the people who are looking for better healthcare to this hospital. Hospital sources said, "The much needed the Dental X-ray and CT Scan Machines are lying defunct as they have developed some technical snag and the surgeons are delaying the procedure and in emergency cases they are sending the patients to the outside private diagnostic centres.
A doctor on anonymity admittingly said that there is delay in diagnostic procedure due to some technical snag in electronic gadgets which force us to put them on standby mode. She said the problem has been communicated to higher ups but perhaps red-tapism has resulted in inordinate delay. She regretted poor patients from nearby PHC and Sub-district Hospitals come here with great hopes but we are helpless in the dire needs of much needed cheap radio diagnostic testing facility and force poor people to get tests done from private clinics. Another doctor posted at DH Kathua alleged that sub-standard microscopes and analyzers in Biochemistry affect the working of laboratories.
She said Low Quality Slides and analyzers, low resolution Microscopes and shortage of technicians add to patient's sufferings and further demanded proper checking/ repairing of medical equipment besides quality of microscope than quantity.
Pertinent to mention here that many a times it has been already highlighted that District Hospital Kathua functions with sub standard facilities and also sans due medical and paramedical staff but all in vain.
Dr Anoop Manhas, Medical Superintendent District Hospital (DH) Kathua when contacted outrightly rejected the allegations of any sort of inconvenience to patients in this hospital. He however admitted the ill functioning of Dental X-ray and CT scan gadgets and added the matter has been taken up with higher authorities to get due annual maintenance for the costly diagnostic gadgets. He also owned that hospital has 32 out of 50 sanctioned post of surgeon and shortage of technicians but ensured to manage the same in near future.
