50 casual labourers engaged in last five years in violation of norms
Major recruitment scandal surfaces in JK Sports Council

jammu, Aug 31: A major recruitment scandal has surfaced in Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, wherein nearly 50 casual labourers have been engaged in the last five years during tenure of National Conference-Congress Government. Instead of advertising the posts, the engagements were made merely on the approval of the then Secretary or vice president of Council, who happens to be the Sports Minister. In response to an RTI application filed by Sudhir Kumar, the JK Sports Council furnished a detailed reply, according to which 31 casual labourers were engaged on the approval of the then Secretary of JK Sports Council while 20 casual labourers were appointed on the approval of the then vice presidents, who happened to be the then Sports Ministers of Congress-NC coalition.
Sources informed Early Times that being a public authority, as same is getting funds as grants-in-aid from the Government, the recruitment rules laid down by Government for other autonomous bodies, Government institutions were applicable but the Council had become a rehabilitation center for party workers and blue eyed of former Sports Ministers or the Secretaries, many of whom were discredited bureaucrats and technocrats. According to RTI reply, the casual labourers engaged on the approval of the then Secretary were Nazir Ahmed Bhat son of Ghulam Ahmad Bhat resident of Naganari, Uri, appointed on 9/6/2006, Fayaz Ahmed Sofi son of Mohamamd Sofi resident of Peer Hamdan Anantnag appointed on 8/1/2007, Mushtaq Ahmed Parray son of Ghulam Mohammad Parry resident of Gadoora Ganderbal (DOA: 6/2/2009), Mohammad Maqbool Malik son of Late Mohamamd Ramzan Malik R/o Dalgate Srinagar (10/3/2010), Altaf Hussain Dar S/o Ghulam Qadir Dar R/o Dalina Baramulla (26/3/2010). Fayaz Ahmed Mir S/o Gh. Mohammad Mir R/o Lasjan Bye Pass (8/3/2011), Tariq Ahmed Sofi S/o Gh. He assured that he would personally look into the matter.
