Eerie lull on IB, Border people yet to come out of trauma
9/2/2015 12:30:10 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 1: Though the cross border firing has ceased yet the border residents living along the International border across Jammu frontier are yet to come out of the trauma of constant border shelling by the Pak rangers.
Despite prevailing peace in the area for last couple of days, majority of border residents still are living under constant fear of further escalation in the coming days and have been requesting the state govt agencies to make alternate arrangements in advance to prevent further loss of life in the unprovoked shelling.
Their fear stems from the fact that DG BSF and his Pak counterparts are expected to meet in New Delhi between September 9-13 and in the wake of ongoing tensions between the two neighboring countries the border residents are spending sleepless nights to ensure safety of their loved ones and live stock, .
"We take turns to go to sleep and few among us stay awake to escort villagers to safety in the event of cross border firing in the dead of the night", a villager in forward village in RS Pura said.
"We cannot afford to lose more civilian lives. Already we have sacrificed so much in the last one year, he said while adding, "we have been living in constant fear and there is no respite from the border tension just guessing what will happen next."
In the absence of adequate bunkers in the forward area especially those falling in the direct line of fire the border residents have been regularly pleading before the visiting leaders to extend them all possible help in this hour of need to help the border residents lead peaceful lives.
