Jammu, Sept 3: Showing solidarity with ongoing movement for 'One Rank One Pension (OROP)', the Ex- Servicemen of Jammu today staged candle light march at General Zorawar Singh Chowk opposite Bahu Plaza here today. According to press release, the candle march also held in various district of province including Ladakh, Kupwara, Udhampur, Kathua, Samba, Rajouri, and Poonch in which large numbers of Ex-servicemen and their family members were participated. President of league of Maj General Goverdhan Singh Jamwal said that the Ex-servicemen were only demanding what had promised by the Prime Minister and approved by the Parliament over the issue of OROP which has been pending for last many years. He informed the Ex-servicemen that some misleading statements were being fed to the Press that Ex-servicemen are demanding only 3% annual increase. "They have only asked for bringing up their pensions regularly so that they are compensated for retiring so young at the age of 32", he said. He hopes that the government will find a solution to avoid any untoward happenings due to fast on to death by some of the Ex-Servicemen at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi. |
