Rajouri, Sept 3: Students , their parents, members of civil society, intellectuals of the area social and political leadership and even Altaf Bukhari, Minister for PWD(R&B) and Nayeem Akhter, Education Minister have shown their concern over the closing of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) by its administration to crush the student's voice against the corrupt officials of the university.
But Mohd Ishaq ,officiating Registrar of BGSBU seems to be least bothered about the future of the students. He told Early times why media was interested in re-opening the university. BGSBU administration had closed the university on 25/8/15 by the officiating Registrar Mohd Ishaq vide his office order No BGSBU/Reg/15/5401-35 on the directions of Vice Chancellor claiming that recent student's unrest in the campus and its wider implications and for the prevailing peace and tranquillity in the campus, all the departments were closed and student/boarders were directed to vacate the hostels.
SSP Rajouri had constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by SDPO, Thanamandi and university administration had also initiated internal inquiry.
During police investigation Registrar Mohd Rashid Chowdhary and deputy registrar finance were also summoned by the SIT for questioning and it was established that some over dated crossed cheques (scholarship money) were signed and made bearers by the Registrar and others. Registrar during police questioning had refuted the allegations and denied his signatures. Police had sent the sample of his writing to FSL for which the report was being waited.
Students of Engineering department had smelled foul play in both the investigation alleging interference /pressure tactic being adopted by the involved persons/Registrar.
Not satisfied over both the investigations student begin indefinite strike demanding removal of Registrar till the concluding of inquiries, audit of three major accounts head of BGSBU (students alleging large scale bungling in these accounts also) , change of SIT head with officer of high repute, improvement in hostel facilities, curtailment in fee structure (alleging highest fee structure in the country) and few other issues related to student's welfare. But their main demands were removal of VC, audit of three major accounts and action against those involved in infamous scholarship scam.
As the routine work of BGSBU was affecting severely the pressure was mounted by the civil society to defuse the situation.
On the directions from Chief Minister's office and after three day long marathon meetings between district administration (DC & SSP) University administration decided to replace Registrar and SSP agreed to replace SIT head on August 23.
Following agreement students called off their indefinite strike and decided to attend classes from August 24.
But when ex-Registrar resume the office of OSD in the office of Vice Chancellor, student got irritated, as they were demanding to send the Registrar on forced leave till pending inquiry, and they again went on strike and cordoned off the VC office complex till 3 am today and didn't allow any body including VC and Registrar to come out of the office.
On August 25 BGSBU administration closed the University which is still closed. Altaf Bukhari, PWD(R&B) Minister has assured stringent action against university accused who have defamed the highest institution of learning, assured probe by high level committee constituted by the state government and early re-opening of the university.
But officiating Registrar is least bothered about re-opening of university soon and said,"when a meeting in this connection will be held media will be informed".
