JAMMU, Sept 3 : Government College for Women (GCW) Parade today lifted the inter-college handball trophy beating GCW Gandhi Nagar (14-05) by a comfortable margin of nine points in the final played on the University of Jammu (JU) grounds, here. Sweety and Richa were star performers from the winning Parade College team while Simran Sharma defended well from GCW Gandhi Nagar. Principal of GCW Parade, Prof Renu Goswami was chief guest in the title clash, who gave away the running trophy amidst cheers from the team and its supporters. Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau presided. Prominent among those present were Sumnesh Sharma, Suram Singh, Ajaz Malik, Vijay Kumari, Suman Sharma, Dr. Brij Baloria, Romesh Sharma, Ravish Vaid and Gagan Kumar. Meanwhile, in the men's handball tournament, the combined side of Post Graduate (PG) Departments shall take on Government SPMR College of Commerce in the final at the same venue tomorrow at 10 am. Earlier, in the semifinals, played today, PG Departments beat Government Degree College (GDC) Udhampur 20-13 while Commerce College outplayed GDC Kathua 17-12. Today's matches officiated by the technical penal comprising Kapil Salgotra, Gourav Sharma, Taqdeer Singh Charak, Arvind Sharma and Vinay Sharma under the supervision of event incharge, Vikas Karlopia.
FENCING : Meanwhile, in ongoing inter-college fencing competition, individual events were in progress on the second day today. The team events shall be played on the concluding day tomorrow. |
