Incidents of Pak firing register increase on IB, LoC | 10 killed in 55 ceasefire violations by Pak in a month | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 4: To disturb peace and give impetus to the otherwise flagging militancy in the state, Pakistan has been day in, day out resorting to unprovoked firing, targeting forward Indian posts and villages on the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC). Ten people lost their lives in the Pak firing in the last one month. The heavy enemy firing is aimed at providing cover to the militants waiting in the forward Pak areas to cross over into the Indian territory. The Pak Rangers from their Jamshed post fired at Tubewell No 5 outpost of BSF in R S Pura sub-sector at about 2 am today. Fire was returned. The exchange of fire between the two sides continued for over an hour, according to official sources. The Pak troops also opened unprovoked fire, targeting forward Indian posts in BG sub-sector of Poonch. India retaliated. In both the incidents of firing on the IB and the LoC, there was no damage on the Indian side, sources said. As intelligence inputs suggested that Pak would target civilian areas last night, BSF had already alerted people in R S Pura border areas and asked them to move to safer places. This was also a reason that India suffered no civilian casualty in the fresh ceasefire violation by Pakistan. Army has, however, suffered casualties in the Pak firing on LoC in Kashmir. While the two countries have spoken on hotline, there has been no flag meeting between them for the past some time. Since January this year, there have been 250 ceasefire violations by Pakistan. In August alone, there were 55 incidents, resulting in the death of 10 persons and injuries to many others. |
