Udhampur, Sept 4: When it comes to encroachments, in the city the Municipal Committee Udhampur (MCU) apparently seemed to have adopted different yard sticks in case to deal with powerless vendors and against big wigs in Udhampur.
The example of the fact came to fore just when the MCU authorities are on spree to clear encroachments along roadside and are taking action against the poor vendors but it had adopted a Nelson's Eye approach towards the ongoing construction work a clear encroachment in the middle of the main township at Adarsh Colony in violation of all the MC Acts in regard to construction of a building.
According to sources, the construction by this influential person Neeraj Gupta started some months ago but some social activists and media persons objected the encroachment and got the construction stayed through the court of law. Sources said that structure encroaches over the nullah flowing by road side (which is clear in the picture). They said that title verification has been cleared by the Municipal Committee building permission section where it has allegedly showed a forged diagram.
"And due to alleged unholy nexus, the influential individual managed the construction permission got the requisite permission in violations of MC Acts.
"Neeraj Gupta has used his influence and money power to get his work done," alleged a local Navdeep Singh. He also said, "Under a planned strategy, Neeraj Gupta preferred the holidays of Janamashtmi followed by a Sunday to get plenty of time to get his encroachment completed as both concerned department the Revenue and the Municipal Committee will remain closed during holidays.
He and other neighbours in the locality said that the civic body and the MCU should take some strict actions against such encroachments and these need to be removed so that other elements may be discouraged before doing so.
When contacted Commissioner Municipal Committee Udhampur K K Chalotra replied he is out of town and will look the matter after he reaches to town. However later on the Commissioner MCU didn't responded the phone calls from this reporter. |
