Jammu, Sept 4: The outgoing Vice-Chancellor of Baba Gulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri, Prof. IA Hamal is likely to adjust some candidates in the varsity, who are either relatives of his trusted lieutenants or close ones, before leaving.
Sources told Early Times that the incumbent VC, who was in the line of fire for last many months for allegedly shielding some officials who were allegedly involved in Scheduled Tribe (ST) scholarship scandal, is retiring shortly, but before leaving the varsity, he has been trying to adjust the kin of his trusted lieutenants in the campus.
"As per norms, the VC of any university, whose term is expiring shortly, cannot order any adjustment or engagement of any employee, six months before leaving the varsity. But this VC has been leaving no stone unturned to adjust his people on some already identified posts," sources alleged.
Meanwhile, sources said after coming under pressure due to students' protests against Registrar Mohammad Rashid Choudhary, the government had sent him on forced leave few days ago, but it appears the Registrar would be retained on the same post.
"Few days back, a cabinet minister was present in Rajouri, and several delegations called on him and put forth their demands", sources said. "Some delegations, under instructions from former Registrar and some other senior officials of varsity, tried to persuade the minister to retain Choudhary in the varsity."
"Some faculty members, who are close to Choudhary had also called upon minister and claimed innocence of Choudhary," sources said.
Sources also said that pressure has been created on the government through some ministers to retain Choudhary and also hush up the scholarship scandal.
"Already the investigation in the scholarship scandal has been going at a snail's pace and it was only after students' pressure that Government sent Registrar on forced leave and now once again, efforts are on to re-adjust the Registrar," sources added.
