Jammu, Sept 8: Further disgracing the sanctity of the education system and to cover the absence of 'competent' faculty in the department of mass communication and journalism, the management of Gandhi Memorial College-recognized by University of Kashmir has approached Central University Jammu, seeking help in the functioning of the department. According to sources, a senior member of the Society, had approached the concerned department of the Central University seeking help in reviving the working of the department of journalism and mass communication, which however, sans faculty. Meanwhile, to challenge the report carried by Early Times regarding 'how few people in the college influenced the selection process of lecturer', the college had conducted a signature campaign, wherein students were forced to sign a petition, claiming things are normal in the college, whereas media reports were wrong. Students, wishing anonymity said that the college administration has asked them to sign a petition, wherein it was mentioned that there is everything normal in the college, "which is sheer lie. We are without faculty and a diploma holder is taking our classes. The person selected as permanent faculty hardly comes to college and whenever he comes it's impossible to comprehend what he says, as he has communication problem," students maintained. Pertinently, Early Times had reported that Gandhi Memorial College, the only college in Jammu affiliated with Kashmir University, is functioning without adequate faculty. According to students of Mass Communication and Journalism department, since the beginning of this year they have attended just a single class so far due to shortage of faculty. "Last month, the college administration conducted interviews for lecturer and selected a person who could not speak well. To cover this issue, the management of the college approached central university and sought lecturer, but later refused to provide such service, whereas the university agreed to hold joint classes in the university. Earlier, students had expressed displeasure over the working of the college, maintaining that despite charging Rs 40,000 per semester; they take studies for granted by appointing any layman as a lecturer. |
