HMT CWL staff without salary since 18 months

Srinagar, Oct 3: HMT Chinar Watches Ltd Srinagar, a subsidiary unit of HMT Ltd is facing a bad time as it's employees are working without salary for the last 18 months. HMT watches which were known world over for its brand name and quality as time keeper to the nation.
HMT watches factory Srinagar which started its operation in 1972 had a strength of over 1400 employees, now reduced to 31 only out of which 8 employees are stationed at Bari Brahmana Jammu being migrant employees.
Actually factory was functioning in full production target of watches had no major problem upto 1990 but as militancy erupted in Kashmir 1989 and thereafter assassination happened of H L Kheda then General Manager of HMT, then half of its work force fled away from the factory under threat of life to take shelter in safer zone out side Valley resulting closure of factory for a brief period of time which declined production volume instantly.
When enquired from employees Union Secretary about fact, he told that we all have become frustrated, we don't have even bus fares to pay for attending our duty. We are living on assurance and now we are told that by December, 2015 is the finally deadline for VRS, given to all in one go but it is yet assurance by the management. He told majority has been given benefit of VRS and we should be given VRS as we all exercised our vrs consent. On asking about delay in disbursement of unpaid salary of staff, Nishar Ahmed Shah, unit chief HMT Chinar watches Ltd told that salary is expected within couple of days but I have no written information as yet in my office.
