Let BPL be only criteria for reservation
10/4/2015 11:44:16 PM

It is astonishing to find that when scientists are busy
in searching signs of life on Mars, revolutionising hu
man life by developing astonishing machines, exploring every unexplored part of this cosmos and translating every impossibility into possibility, some in India are still crying for reservation. The agitation by Patels in Gujarat on August 25, 2015 is quite reprehensible as violence on the occasion led to the loss of nine precious lives and damage to public property. This appalling act can be evaluated this way -- either some of us are not confidant of ourselves to pass the competitive exams to get admissions to professional colleges and jobs in government departments or cannot move a step forward without the support of reservation.
Story of reservations dates back to the time of Britishers. It was in 1858, when Britishers decided to give reservation to down trodden Indians. But they had a hidden agenda behind their this move. Actually by raising one community, they wanted to create abhorrence among others. This was the dirty way to employ their divide and rule policy successfully in India. For example, in an area if, one particular community is given Govt. help in admissions or Govt. jobs, other communities would surely start hating them. Something akin happened at that time but the irony is, even after independence when our policy makers have every possible way to amend those policies which have alienated India on caste lines, they have given a start to an unending era of caste base reservations system by adopting it in Indian constitution.
Following are the draw backs of caste base reservation system
(1) Selective nature of caste base reservation debars it to reinforce all poor because written data reveals that, there is a diversity in every community with respect to economic status of every individual. For example all the SCs and STs are not poor. Some are well settled but getting benefits of reservation. It is because of this big portion of India is still poor and living below poverty line. Because of caste base reservation 26% of India still do not possess enough to feed themselves even after 67 years of independence.
(2) Permanent nature of caste base reservation keeps on benefiting even those who have attained riches with the help of reservation. For example if, an ST or SC become an IAS or KAS on reservation basis, he is no longer poor but his successors continue getting benefits of reservation, even if they are getting education in good schools.
(3)Caste base reservation has lingered on caste base politics in India. It has been inhibiting indisputable leaders to lead the country since independence.
(4)Reservation, like an ailment, is making our generations handicap. It also inhibits Indian minds to do miracles.
So, the reservation must be given to only those, who fall below poverty line. This is the only way to eradicate poverty from India. This policy would concentrate only on poor and can easily raise their level to a comfortable life.
Reservation must be for a limited period of time, once a particular group of people have achieved assessable means to earn their source of revenue, reservation benefits must be stopped to them and shifted to other poor. With this not even a single Indian would remain poor.
Only poverty base reservation can accomplish our long enduring dream of blissful and flourishing India.
