Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 5: The state government on Monday confirmed 2, 96,344 households that lack electricity with Jammu province worst sufferer having 1, 87,169 families in 9 districts lacking basic facility. There are total of 10, 9,175 households in Kashmir valley which are yet to get power supply followed by total of 1, 87,169 consumers in winter capital of the state. Minister for Power Development Department (PDD) in a written reply to opposition National Conference (NC) MLC, Dr Shahnaz Ganai informed the council that there are total of 2, 96,344 households without electricity in 20 districts across the state. According to the district wise data provided by the government there are eleven districts in Kashmir valley where 10, 9,175 households lacks power supply while in Jammu province there are total of 1,87,169 households in nine districts without electricity. Among nine districts Jammu province is the worst sufferer where 57,986 households are yet to be provided with electricity. Rajouri district is the second largest with 32,966 families unsupplied with power facility, followed by 23,503 in Kathua, 22,345 in Doda and Kistwar, 19,659 in Samba, 16,439 in Poonch, 6,535 in Ramban, 5,553 in Reasi and 2,183 in Udhampur districts. Similarly there are total of 10, 9, 175 families in Kashmir valley with District Kupwara tops list of 32,577 households followed by 11,545 in Kargil, 10715 in Shopian, 9569 in Bandipora, 8256 in Baramulla, 7,785 in Anantnag, 6, 686 in Kulgam, 7694 in Leh, 5,227 in Pulwama, 4,694 in Budgam and 4,427 in Ganderbal districts. The state government however informed that the electrification of these households has been kept under recently announced central sponsored scheme Deen Dhayal Upadhyay Grameen Jyoti Yojna (DDUGJY). While as the total DPR cost submitted by concerned department is 1249.7 crores the central government has approved mere 530. 08 crores for all districts. "The total DPR cost for all the district of Jammu and Kashmir submitted by Power Development Department (PDD) is rupees 1249.7 crores. However monitoring committee government of India in its meeting held on August 6 this year has approved the DPR's for rupees 530. 08 crores only for whole of the state," reads the written the governments written reply to Ganaie. It has also claimed that the state government in order to get the full amount is pleading the case with full strength. Responding to a query about the steps taken by the government for transfer of NHPC Salal, Uri and Dulhasti to state PDC, the government claimed " in the agenda of alliance of the PDP-BJP coalition government it has been promised to explore modalities for transfer of Dulhasti and Uri Hydro Power Projects to Jammu and Kashmri state as suggested by the Rangarajan Committee and Round Table reports. Further steps in this regard are being taken,". |
