Teacher turns don, exploits students
10/7/2015 12:26:01 AM
Early Times Report
POONCH, Oct 6: Many dabang teachers and masters posted in far flung areas seem to have made it a habit to exploit the students and behave as dons. Despite media exposing such teachers on many occasions Government has failed to act against them, thus encouraging them to become bigger than the institutions.
A teacher, Mohammad Akbar has turned into a don at a high school Shahpur in Nangli zone in Poonch district. He ensures that students do all the menial jobs for him and has passed strict instructions to the students that whenever he enters the classroom, they should act like slaves as he is the "king."
Residents of the area who wish not to be named while talking to Early Times said: "He (Master Akbar) makes male students press his feet and shoulders as soon as he enters the classroom. Students don't remember when he taught them last. He is least bothered about completing the syllabus of the students and seems really unaware about his real job i.e. teaching."
They said that parents of the students on many occasions have brought this matter into the notice of the higher ups but their pleas have fallen flat on deaf ears. "As no one paid any heed towards our requests we decided to approach the local press to highlight how children are exploited on the name of providing education," they said.
The Education Minister Naeem Akther who leaves no opportunity to claim that he has streamlined the Education system in the state is unaware about the ground realities.
"Children in far flung areas give up studies at the early age due to many reasons. The school buildings are in shambles and the students are dumped into the classrooms as cattle. Their teachers treat them shabbily. In many Government schools teachers treat their students like servants. There are many cases about teachers calling their students to their homes to help them with their daily chores," locals said.
The Education Minister who had triggered a row by ordering that all the ReT teachers would have to undergo screening test needs to go out on the field to check what is happening in the Government schools. "He (Naeem Akther) passes orders and instructions sitting in his cozy office chambers. He is unaware about the hardships which students face and how they are treated by their teachers," said an analyst.
He said that there are many masters like Mohammad Akbar who need to be shown the exit door to safeguard the future of our children. "It's unfortunate that since the day Naeem Akther has taken over as the Education Minister, the education sector has been politicized. No concrete steps have been taken to plug the loop holes in the system. Masters like Akbar would continue to call the shots till the higher ups don't take a note of such serious issue and come out in open to ascertain the facts," he added.
