Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Oct 7: Legislative assembly speaker Kavinder Gupta and legislative council chairman Haji Anayat Ali today ordered for the revocation of suspension of two MLAs and two MLCs respectively. The legislators had been suspended for the rest of autumn session after they created ruckus in assembly and council respectively.
As soon as the legislative assembly started its proceedings for the day MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami urged the speaker to roll back his order of suspension of two National Conference MLAs from the house for the rest of autumn session. Tarigami said that speaker should be magnanimous enough to order for the revocation of suspension of NC's Altaf Ahmad Wani (MLA Pahalgam) and Abdul Majeed Bhat (MLA Homeshalibugh).
Tarigami said that since chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed believes in the importance of opposition in the democracy it would be in tune that suspension of two NC legislators is rolled back. He said opposition should be allowed to play its role on the floor of house and as such NC legislators' suspension is revoked.
As the MLA Kulgam was presenting his point of view the chief minister stood up and sought the attention of the speaker. Mufti said that opposition's role is to oppose, depose and expose. He hailed the role of speaker in handling the issues on the floor of the house and said that Gupta's role has been exemplary.
"It is quite unfortunate that National Conference, the main opposition party has boycotted the proceedings of the house. At the same time the legislators too should understand their responsibilities and they should not create ruckus in the assembly. They should not break the mikes and it was unfortunate that Usman Majeed was leading the protesting legislators. Usman has a history but he should now understand that he is a member of this august house," said Mufti.
The chief minister said that opposition should be given every chance to speak in the house and at the same time the opposition parties should behave properly. He said that democracy is battle of ideas and as such the role of opposition is important. He asked the speaker to revoke the suspension order and said that NC leader Omar Abdullah should call off his boycott of the house.
On this the speaker said that he was forced to suspend the two MLAs since they snatched the mikes and resorted to ruckus in the assembly. He said that since Mufti has intervened in the matter he is revoking the order of suspension of MLA Pahalgam and MLA Homeshalibugh.
In the legislative council Congress MLC Ghulam Nabi Monga drew the attention of council chairman Haji Anayat Ali and wanted him to revoke the suspension of two MLCs of National Conference. Monga urged that suspension of MLCs Ali Mohammad Dar and Showkat Hussain Ganie is revoked at the earliest. The council chairman accepted the request and ordered for the revocation of suspension of two NC MLCs.
