Providing land to border residents at safer places: Centre, State passing buck on each other
10/8/2015 12:27:26 AM
Early Times Report
jammu, Oct 7: Plights of border residents are increasing with every passing day but both State and Central Governments are shifting responsibilities on each other to provide alternative lands to these helpless people at safer places so that they can shift their family members at the time of tension on the borders.
For the last ten days, both the Governments have prepared comprehensive proposals to provide land to border people at safer places but these proposals remained only on papers or confined only in the speeches of the leaders.
Today Union Home Secretary, Rajiv Mehrishi, who first time visited Jammu after his appointment on this post, said that decision to provide five marlas of land has to be taken by state Government. He said that it is under the purview of the State Government to take decision on providing alternative land to border residents.
Ironically, State Government is repeatedly stating that proposal of provide alternative lands to border residents has been forwarded to the Centre. But Centre has made it clear that decision in this issue has to be taken by the State Government on its own.
Meanwhile Union Home Secretary assured the border residents in Jammu and Kashmir that bunkers will be constructed for their safety during cross-border firing.
The Home Secretary, who arrived here early on Wednesday, visited this village in RS Pura sector of the international border accompanied by Inspector General (IG), Border Security Force (BSF) and other senior officers.
During an interaction with the villagers, the Home Secretary assured that every step will be taken to protect their lives and property.
He said that concrete bunkers would be constructed in villages close to the border so that the lives of people are protected during ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops.
Mehrishi later left for Srinagar where he is scheduled to meet Governor NN Vohra and Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed.
