Early Times Report

Udhampur, Oct 8: A park in Udhampur named after the great patriot Shaheed Bhagat Singh is in shambles as the municipal committee is least concerned about it. The park which is in dilapidated condition doesn't even have a stone insignia of the patriot while there are no flowers in the garden and the gardener visits the park occasionally and as per his will only. The park is located in the heart of the city in the middle of the main crowded Goal market which is mostly frequented by the people coming from far off areas and other outskirts of the town. Yoga person Raj guru said that locals of the town have only this park where the old age persons perform certain physical activities like yoga , walking and kids gets some space to play as well, but the condition of the park is too bad and it has become just a mere garbage dump where polythene waste and empty pouches of country liquor are seen littered. The benches are used by the alcoholic persons and no one has the responsibility to take care of it as only few benches have been installed against the requirements. Bharat Choudhery said that , 3 gardeners have been allotted by the administration but still the shrubs and the grass remain uncut which has blocked the drains resulting in the garbage and the waste flowing through the middle of the park from last many months and no actions have been taken. Municipality Commissioner K.K Chanotra when contacted said the government is keeping clinical eye in this matter as it has already received several complaints from the locals and others. "We have informed the SHO Udhampur to keep a check on the drunkards on routine intervals. SHO Arjun Chib has already started surprise checking and routine drive inside the park and soon the problem will be figured out and strict actions taken against anyone found violating," said Chanotra.
