To keep PDP veterans away, rivals join hands

Early Times Report
srinagar, Nov 2: In a bid to keep two PDP veteran leaders at bay, at least two of the party ministers who are new to politics and had strained relations, have "joined hands" to remain in good books of the high command.
The duo, a businessman-turned-politician was often at war with the other. But with MPs Tariq Hameed Qarra and Muzaffar Hussain Beigh have distanced themselves from the party affairs over their dissatisfaction with the performance of the coalition government, the duo is trying to encash the situation for "personal rise in the party ranks."
As per insiders, the duo seem to have understood that the best way to grab position was through unity and working as "one entity rather than being each other's rivals."
With this in mind, the two are often seen together at party conventions and official visits. When it comes to attending feasts, the two prefer sitting together on Wazwan Trami and talk to each other quite often than before when they would prefer distance.
Around a fortnight back when Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed toured Srinagar to review developmental works, these two ministers were seen escorting him, like a shadow, hand-in-hand. "At many places, they ensured posing for official pictures together only to send a signal to the concerned quarters through Information Department that the cold war is over," said a party insider pleading anonymity.
A biggest development on his front came on Sunday, November 1 when the minister duo together drove from Srinagar to south Kashmir to jointly address party's Worker's Convention at Achabal in south Kashmir.
The PDP general secretary, Rafi Ahmad Mir and political advisor to PDP president, Peerzada Mansoor Hussain were also present.
At the convention, the duo ministers asked the participants to be vigilant against elements who are trying to enervate PDP and its coalition with BJP.
Political observers claim this is a tactful move aimed to counter the theory often propounded by Qarra and Beigh that PDP-BJP alliance has failed the expectations of the people and cite it as the main reason for their disassociation from party meetings.
The minister duo said present government is the "government of people and asked workers to play their role in the development process." They also hailed Peer Mansoor Hussain.
In Achabal, the two ministers also jointly discussed facelift of Royal Garden of Achabal. They later had meals together and spend quite some time discussing their "personal stakes in PDP and its future in coming months".
