Kathua, Nov 24: Continuing with its drive against smugglers, the officials of the Excise department at Toll Post Lakhanpur thwarted a major attempt of smuggling of narcotics and recovered 420 Kgs of Poppy Straw (Bhukki). "The driver of the truck apprehended has been identified as Abdul Qayoom Khan (42) s/o Mutawalli Khan r/o 26, Girdanawa P/O Mahora, Boniyar Baramulla Kashmir who later was handed over to the SHO Police Station Lakhanpur, an official said. According to official spokesperson, the smugglers had concealed the 420 kg of bhukki in 22 bags clandestinely beneath the Barcian seeds in the vehicle bearing regd no JK02AC-5680 on its way from Srinagar to Delhi. "As per the documents produced at the Toll Post for clearance, the Barcian seeds were consigned by New GEE ENN Sons Enterprises 12-A, SDA Iqbal Shopping Complex Iqbal park Srinagar to M/s Sani Seeds Corporation Sadispura Delhi," he said. Official added that however, when the vehicle was put to physical check, it was found to be loaded with 14675 kg of Barcian seeds beneath which 420 kg (22 bags) of Bhukki were concealed. The catch was made by the team of Excise department comprising Excise & Taxation Officers Varinder Singh Billoria, G L Sharma, Rohit Sharma and Vikas Anand and Inspectors Adarsh Sharma, Sanjeev Khajuria and Gopal Kumar and Sub-Inspector Amit Sharma and Excise Guard Ajay Kumar while Station House Officer (SHO) Police Station Lakhanpur, cooperated the operation. The Deputy Excise Commissioner, Rajesh Sharma appreciated the commendable role of the staff and warned the tax evaders/ smugglers to desist from such kind of illegal activities. |
