Jammu, Nov 24: The department of Mass Communication and New Media of Central University of Jammu today stages two street plays in the lawn of Temporary Academic block in Sainik Colony. Both the plays were based on the theme "Gender Discrimination". The first play titled "Bhand Koor" was based on the famous folk theatre form of Kashmir region Bhand Pather, besides the second play was based on folk theatre form of Jammu region, "Hiran" and titled, "Sachai Ki Aur Ek Nazar". Vice Chancellor of CUJ, Prof. Ashok Aima, Head of the Department of MCNM Prof. Deepsheekha Kotwal, HOD of other departments, faculty members, scholars and students were present on the occasion. The story of first play, "Bhand Koor", revolved around the life of three Bhands and their leader called "Magun", who were called by Maharaja in his palace. The Bhands made a professy of a son which proved wrong and the Bhands were ordered by the Maharaja to leave the kingdom. In search of livelihood the Bhands migrated to city and become sage and they again started professy work but once again it proved wrong and were ultimately killed. The play established that both in rural and urban areas, people expect only male child . In the second play, "Sachai Ki Aur Ek Nazar", based on Hiran form of folk theatre, soul of Maharaja, his Wazir and soldiers were on a tour of city to know about the development activities, witnessed so far by the city after his death. Firstly the Hiran was encountered by a policemen, who suspected them as terrorists from Pakistan but when he came to know that they were only souls, he begged for his life and became one of their companion. A dejected wife then stopped the Hiran and Maharaja asked the wife to narrate the story but after listening the story the Maharaja took side of her husband. Before pronouncing his judgement, the Wazir suggested to also taken into consideration the voices of all masses, as well as animals. The Maharaja was shocked to listen the words of Hiran as he proclaimed that the world of animals was far better than the people and the play concluded. Both the plays were directed by Assistant Prof. Rashid Ali and assisted by Research Scholar Attied Khawar Balwan. Goldi Sharma, Devinder Sharma, Narinder Singh, Vikas Sharma, Sugandha Sharma, Gigo Joes, Akshay, Avinash, Sushil, Irfan Ahmed, Diksha Parihar, Diksha Dhar, Vinica Bhat, Kumarjeet participated in the plays. |
