Question of re-settlement of Kashmiri Pandits
11/25/2015 11:02:22 PM
M.K. Mattoo
Now there is much talk about the return and resettlement of internally displaced persons. The talk has become a cliché with the State and the Central Government. Observers feel that real ground situation dose not support practicability of township plan of rehabilitation of KPs at the moment.
Whenever some concrete measures have been taken on the return of pundits , the negative and anti-national elements have created hurdles as they are hell bent to sabotage the move. Some colonies have been developed in Kashmir valley by the members of the majority community and when no one has any hesitation in construction of their colonies, why the separatists should oppose the composed township in Kashmir for settlement of displaced people who are leading an exiled life in their own State for over last 26 years. The separatists have no moral right to oppose the return as they are the first violators of human rights to the miniscule minority in valley by committing crimes against them which led to the mass exodus of the community. The opposition to composed township has exposed the separatist and vindicated the stand of Kashmiri Pundits which stands for a separate homeland for over seven lac Pundits within valley.
It is thought probing question "how long will it take for a displaced community to realize their responsibility towards their future generations"? It is a question to be answered by the community.
Twenty Six years that have gone by, have witnessed formidable changes in the community on social and cultural front. Young boys and girls seeking their privacy and elders realizing its necessity resulted into sub- nuclearization with its far reaching consequences. Elders of the community are the worst victims of these circumstances who by compulsion have to stay back at watch dogs. They are worst victims of nuclearization. Kashmiri Pandit's identity is faced with serious dilution on social front, cultural front and at genetic front as well. Family we adopt, the Houses we built everywhere but the home where we live jointly, is lost till it is regained and used as centre of attraction and togetherness.
Kashmiri Pundits are told to live at their places, well, who won't like to be at his original home, say, where are those places, where pundits will live in and construct their houses. They have been sold by the land grabbers or encroached by the neighbours or by the Government agencies. They have not spared even the temple land and the land on which temple was erected. How could one forgot the environs, where peace and serenity rests. Everybody would still like to go back to those lanes and bylanes where they have spent their childhood.
A common Kashmiri is comfort loving and he wants to live an easy and dignified life. He has nothing to do with all the stuff and non-sense going on in Kashmir at the cost of innocent blood. What we have been watching in Kashmir for the last 26 years is nothing but the interest of an ignorable host of some souls with bloated ego but no substance. This is ultimate reality of Kashmir.
The Hurriyat leaders should be held accountable for all that has happened to Kashmiris and should not be spared to all. The need of hour is to save the innocent Kashmiri from repercussions of this so - called movement and a planned conspiracy against the Government of Jammu and Kashmir and let them open their eyes into light of reality, shunning all doubts and fears. The so-called freedom is impossible and the accommodation of their grievances within the ambit of Constitution of India, is all time ready for them. If peace can be ensured through any such gesture of Government to accommodate the legitimate demands of the valley and the lives can be saved from the cannon's mouth, nothing like it.
Kashmiri Pandits would need to embrace change, and empathies emotionally with the valley's majority community, especially youth, which has borne intense loss, pain and suffering for decades and remains deeply alienated. Political leadership and opposition leaders of Kashmiri Pandits of different associations, academia, think- tanks, trade bodies, women's organizations of both the communities would need to rise up to the occasion to create a common ground in narrowing differences and promoting and preserving Kashmir's composed culture that has come under stress during these 26 years of long militancy. Else, the window of opportunity for return of Pandit migrants, available now, would be lost forever.
Lastly they know that KPs, the internally disturbed persons, will not be able to build consensus on return and rehabilitation. Therefore, it suits their political ambitions to keep the pundits busy with their in-house struggle on this issue. Let come under one roof and settle the matter within moment so that KPs go back to their places of birth.
