Jammu, Nov 25: Notwithstanding the 'Big State of the States' (SoS) award in health sector by the India Today Group, shortage of plaster bandages in Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu, explicitly exposes the veracity of the award. The premier health institution of Jammu, GMC&H remains flooded with patients from across the Jammu region but there is no plaster bandage in the hospital for the last few days. On Wednesday Minister for Revenue Sunil Sharma, MLA Firdos Ahmed Tak, MLA Daleep Singh Parihar were found visiting GMC to take stock of the condition of accident victims, airlifted from Chenab valley but all of them were reportedly kept in darkness by hospital authorities regarding the absence of plaster bandages. "MLC Firdos Ahmed Tak personally asked the Incharge Emergency of GMC for providing plaster bandages to my friend, who had a broken arm. In front of MLC, the Incharge Emergency assured for providing bandages but when the MLC went to listen grievances of other patients in GMC, the same officer pleaded helplessness to provide plaster bandages to my friend", Narinder Singh, an attended said. He further said that the Emergency officer said that the plaster bandages were not in the stock and all the patients have been purchasing from open market. "Plaster bandage is a basic requirement for all patients with fractures. If there will be any BPL patient, same will have to go in open market for bandages costing Rs. 150 per bandage. For a minor fracture, three to four bandages are required and how a BPL holder will arrange so much money for his treatment", another attendant Daljeet Kumar said. He further said that it blatantly exposed the claims of government about having bagged the state of state's award in Health sector. Medical Superintendent of GMC, Ravinder Rattan Pal said that the plaster bandages were not available for all patients but the regular plaster was available for all. "Only those who are incapable to purchase the plaster bandages are provided these bandages", he said, adding that the supply was in transition and in few days, same would be available. Criticizing the Medical Superintendent, another attendant said, "What is the criteria to identity the patients, incapable of purchasing"?., |
