Jammu, Nov 25: Despite huge political pressure, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Thathri succeeded to retrieve encroached land of Sheep Husbandry department from politically affluent encroachers but the material dumped in the government land remains there still.
Sources informed Early Times that following the exposure by an RTI applicant regarding encroachment of Sheep Husbandry land in Thathri a three member enquiry committee comprising Assistant Commissioner (Revenue) Doda, SDM Thathri, Tehsildar of Dy Commissioner office Doda, was constituted by Deputy Commissioner Doda to ascertain the allegations of encroachment of Sheep Husbandry Department's land in tehsil Thathri.
The enquiry team in its report had found the alleged involvement of some revenue officials in the encroachment scandal, following which the Sheep Husbandry department had fenced the area in Thathri, along with the material dumped by Coastal Engineering Private Company in the said portion of land of Sheep Husbandry department.
Sources said that earlier the private company's management had been paying rent to the tune of nearly Rs. 20,000 to a politically influential person, who was also close to a sitting MLA, but after the exposure of the scam, the Company had stopped giving rent.
"The SDM had served official notices to the company owner to remove the material from the Sheep Husbandry department but the Company Manager had reportedly sought time from SDM", sources said.
They further informed that SDM office on October 26 last had given final notice to the Company owner to remove the material from the said site but the owner had sought time till November 1 for removing the material but so far still the material was there.
"After 25 days of expiry of time given by SDM Thathri, the Company owner has failed to remove the material and it is still unknown why the public auction of the material has not been done", sources said.
SDM Thathri AQ Mir said that the material dumped in the said portion of land belonged to PDC and they have been asked to remove the material from the said portion of land without any further delay.
On being asked if any action has been taken against the revenue officials involved in the encroachment scandal, SDM said that entries in the revenue records were made in 2012-13 but on back dates of 2002. "I have already recommended to Deputy Commissioner Doda, seeking an enquiry by Crime Branch", he said.
Director Sheep Husbandry Dr Sant Ram said that SDM has given notice to the Company management to remove the material dumped in Department's land. "After expiry of final notice, if the Company management fails to remove material, it will be auctioned publically", he said.
Assistant Director Farms Thathri Naresh Dutta said that the case was pending in the court of SDM Thathri.
