Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 26: An attempt to encroach government land behind Poonch House Panjthirthi is going on unabated under the nose of law enforcement authorities including Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC).
A resident of Panjthirthi informed Early Times that a few days back, the encroacher managed to construct stairs in the government land, which was a few meters away at the rear side of Poonch House Panjthirthi, down the slope towards river Tawi.
He further said that few years ago, the land encroacher a resident of Chowgan Slathian, had earlier also constructed rooms in government land but same were caved in during heavy rains, few years back. "The encroacher had failed to approach authorities for any compensation due to the fact that land didn't belong to him", he said, adding that few days back, once again attempts were started to encroach upon government land.
The resident further said though the area falls in seismic zone and it is dangerous to raise constructions there but due to reasons best known to authorities concerned, despite the fact that attempts have been made to encroach upon government land but no action has been taken yet.
"Either the land belongs to Forest department or Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) but both of these authorities are mum over the issue due to reasons best known to them", the resident said.
Former Mayor of JMC, who also represented the Panjthirthi ward, Narinder Singh said that land belonged to JMC and it was fenced.
"The fence of JMC was buried under the debris, few years back and now attempts are being made to raise construction there", he said, adding that action must be taken against the involved person and the officials, who have failed to take action so far.
District Forest Officer (DFO) Jammu, V Sinthal said that he would send a team of officials to the spot and would take appropriate action.
Joint Commissioner (Admin) of JMC RS Jamwal said that he would personally look into the matter and would take required action.
