Rtd IAF officer files 4915 RTI applications before CIC intervenes

New Delhi, Nov 27: In order to get justice and to fight against the alleged corruption in Indian Air Force (IAF) a retired Air Force officer has filed as many as 4915 applications under RTI act. The CIC has now come to the rescue of the retired officer by directing the IAF to disclose information to the information seeker.
Details available with Early Times reveal that Sanjeev Sharma a retired officer of Indian Air Force from Mohali Punjab has filed many applications under the Right to Information Act, 2005 . These applications were addressed to Air Headquarters and various Commands of the Indian Air Force (IAF). Sanjeev Sharma while appearing before the CIC New Delhi in the course of the hearing, before Chief Information Commissioner Vijai Sharma (CIC) said that he had filed various RTI applications before the Central Public Information Officers (CPIOs) of the Air Headquarters and Commands of the IAF.
Sources say that Sharma retired from the IAF in May 2013 and started filing RTI applications from October in the same year. The information sought in the RTI requests covered various issues which include status of complaints regarding misconduct, appellant's victimization, financial misappropriation and administrative irregularities in Indian Air Force (IAF) , as well as details of operational issues.
The nature and scope of the various RTI applications was more or less similar and were highlighting the same issues. The appellant emphasized that he had been regularly filing RTI applications without break to ensure that his voice was heard for action on his complaints.
Coming to the rescue of the applicant, CIC intervened and directed that information be provided to the applicant regarding matters pertinent to the appellant's tenure and work in the IAF taking into account also his Redressal of Grievance applications; the action taken on the RTI applications relating to the appellant's medical treatment; the status of any enquiry conducted on the basis of the appellant's representations alleging corruption and irregularities and information about any findings pertinent to the appellant; the appellant's representation regarding an incident involving another officer of the IAF as mentioned in the Redressal of Grievance application dated 02.05. 2011. in which context, the appellant must be enabled to inspect the respondent's file relating to the inquiry conducted in the matter; the policy and norms regarding the functioning of the messes and the accounts including audit reports in such entities where the appellant was a member; the policy and norms regarding any additional furnishing of aircrafts in context of the RTI applications under consideration and any audit reports; the flora and fauna destroyed or damaged in context of the RTI applications under consideration; and the names of the CPIOs appointed since the appellant started filing RTI applications in the IAF.
