Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 27: Citizens' Forum, Jammu has claimed that the Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) of the state has agreed upon to extend the construction of Bikram Chowk flyover upto Satwari, as was demanded by the forum. According to the forum, the consent from ERA came during a meeting called by CEO of ERA Vinod Sharma with the members of the forum, the other day.
Other projects discussed in the meeting included two abandoned ones - Flyover from Shakuntla Cinema to Janipur and flyover from Bikram Chowk to Janipur, and also the project of supply of drinking water to Jammu City from river Chenab. This project proposes bringing drinking water from River Chenab to Roop Nagar and then supplying to the Jammu City by gravity. Chief Minister Mufti Mohd. Sayeed is very keen to reassess these projects, the forum claimed. A meeting was called by Vinod Sharma CEO ERA in his office at Jammu with the members of Citizen's Forum and the above two projects were discussed thread bare.
It was decided that the Fly-over from Shakuntla to Janipur will be reassessed, land will be cleared of the hurdles created by some previous government leaders to save their buildings which are coming in the way, and a new proposal will be prepared. The road from Manda to High Court from back side will again be reassessed and a viable project will be formed if it is feasible.
The CEO ERA Vinod Sharma explained that the cost of the project of Fly-Over is Rs. 67 crores and it will cost another approximately Rs. 100 crore to take it up to Satwari Chowk and added that the government is ready for that.
Members of the Forum suggested that a complete project of Fly Over from BikramChowk to Kunjwani Jammu be prepared and in the First phase up to Satwari be completed. It was agreed that this agreement will be submitted in the High Court where Citizen's Forum has filed a PIL in the matter of Fly Overs.
Regarding Chenab Water for Jammu City ,a complete Google Satellite view map was submitted to CEO ERA for bringing water pipe along with NH-144 A Road from village Sarot or Village Keri, 4km up-stream of Akhnoor to be brought to Jagati or any other near by place for filtration of water and then supply to the Jammu city by Gravity. It was suggested to prepare a feasible project on the lines of NEERI Nagpur, which was prepared back in 1994 for a cost of Rs. 220 crore but was shelved by then Chief Minister Farrooq Abdullah for the reason that the money will be spent in Jammu. Previous Governments and its Ministers, tried to flounder the project money, by changing the project site of bringing water from Chenab to first Muthi and then Pump it up to Roop Nagar for supply to Jammu city by Gravity. Asian Development Bank canceled the loan for this changed silly project, which smelled a rat of corruption, putting people of Jammu City again short of supply of water.
