Thousands participate in anti-drug rally

Jammu, Nov 28: An initiative undertook by Team Jammu, in the shape of bike rally against drug abuse, received over-whelming response from Jammuities as people cutting across party ideology, caste, creed, colour and religion came forward to render their support to make Jammu free from drugs. Those who are helm of the affairs seem to be have meekly surrendered before "influential and politically well connected" drug lords so Jammuities have reason to pin their hopes on "TEAM JAMMU"-a group of young professionals dedicated for social cause. To wage a war against drug abuse rightly called as "Narco-Terrorism", the Team Jammu today organized anti-drug bike rally, which turned to a historic in a sense that members of the civil society, social organisations and associations of all markets of Jammu city and its outskirts came forward not only to felicitate organizers but they themselves became part of the rally. In one of the historical anti-drugs motorcycle rally in Jammu city, Team Jammu, a group of youth from various walks of life today has given a strong signal against the menace of drugs in the region.
Thousands of youth riding on bikes this morning thronged at Toph Sherkhania Bridge on Akhnoor Road, which was venue of flagging off the rally. The rally was formally flagged by IGP, Jammu Zone, Danish Rana. The rally after passing through different areas of Jammu city and outskirts concluded the rally at JDA ground opposite Maharaja Hari Singh Park on the banks of River Tawi, where Team Jammu, chairman, Zorawar Singh Jamwal addressed the youth.
"It was a beginning and an eye-opener for state administration and police that they have to be strict against the drug menace in Jammu Region, otherwise the time has come when people of Jammu voluntarily under the umbrella of Team Jammu will come in the open against those who are selling the poisonous drugs," said Zorawar Singh Jamwal, who is also Secretary General, Press Club Jammu, and added that Team Jammu is an organisation comprising of writers, advocates, doctors, students and unemployed educated youth and not have any political affiliations, but only fighting for the genuine causes of society.
The rally of enthusiastic youth on motorbikes passing through Shakti Nagar, Rajpura, Rehari, Amphalla Chowk, CPO Chowk, Kachi Chawni, Parade, Moti Bazar, Pacca Danga, Chowk Chabutra, Jain Bazar, Peer Mitha, Rajender Bazar, Shahidi Chowk, Residency Road, Vivekananda Chowk, Lower Gummat, Vinayak Bazar, Dogra Chowk, Bikram Chowk, District Police Lines, Major Ajay Singh Jasrotia Marg, Gole Market, Apsara Road, Rampura, Shastri Nagar, Sanjay Nagar Chowk and Extension Road Gandhi Nagar, Balmiki Chowk, Bahu Plaza Chowk, Panama Chowk, Dogra Chowk near Police Headquarters, Bahu Fort Chowk, Gujjar Nagar area and finally concluded near Maharaja Hari Singh Park.
Meanwhile, most of the residential committees, bazaar associations and many school students showered flowers on the youth participating in the rally, not only marking it a historical rally, but supporting the genuine cause of Team Jammu.
A team of youth headed by Tarun Sharma also performed an act on the occasion, which showed how drugs are inserting into the lives of youth of Jammu.
Team Jammu thanks all traders and social organizations of Jammu who support the cause of Jammu region and welcomed the rally.
