Media Sensitization Workshop organized

Jammu, Nov 29 : MAMTA Health Institute for Mother and Child, New Delhi organised Media Sensitization workshop, in association with Jammu and Kashmir State AIDS Control society and Jammu & Kashmir Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses. The workshop was organized under project Vihaan which aims at bringing qualitative improvement in the life of PLHIVs. Dr. Saleemur Rehmaan Project Director, JKSACS was present as chief guest. A Rehman, Program Manager, Mamta welcomed all participants and gave detailed outline of the workshop. Speaking on the occasion, Risheesh Khajuria, AD (IEC), JKSACS presented the scenario of HIV I AIDS in Jammu and Kashmir and services provided by JKSACS. He said that the State fall under the low Prevalence State where the infection rate among the adult HIV prevalence is 0.17% with estimated population of PLHAs 5000. While a patient who is suffering from HIV also expressed her view that some social organization are educating people about the HIV but the patients who are suffering from this disease still are facing discrimination in the society due to most of people still believe AIDS as a social stigma. She appealed to the JKSACS to provide every facilities to the patients. Sukhwinder Singh, HIV ITB Coordinator, Mamta explained about the activities taken up under project Vihaan. He said that Vihaan is playing vital role to reduce stigma and discrimination and improve the quality of life of people living with HIV AIDS. Rajesh Ranjan, Chief Operating officer, MAMT A explored the areas in which media can be useful to address issues of PLHIV. Media can play vital role in advocacy and requested to cover all important days and events so demands of PLHlVs can be highlighted. Dr. Ramneek-TB/HIV coordinator from State TB Cell, Jammu gave Status of co infection HIV/TB in state and government response to it. Dr. Saleem-ur -Rehman r Project Director, JKSACS said that HIV patient need special attention from all departments as it is their social responsibility to take care of this vulnerable community. He further said that the department is trying their best to provide all needy facilities to these patients without any problem.
He also expressed his gratitude MAMT A to organize such event. Among those who present on the occasion were Santosh Kumari, PC CSC Jammu, Dr. Amit Vaid, CST AD JKSACS, Ashwani, President Press Club, Jammu .
