JAMMU, Nov 29 : In a significant step large number of prominent citizens, heads of different organizations and gazette and non-gazetted govt employees on Sunday expressed their appreciation for the judicial system of the country for upholding the constitution and safeguarding justice and equality. Gathered here under the banner of Joint Action Committee, General Category at JDA park in Trikuta Nagar area the large gathering of people hailed the quashing of reservation in promotion by J&K High Court. Prominent among those who addressed the peoples assembly included Ved Prakash Sharma, President Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha, Vinod Gupta, President Mahajan Sabha, Kamal Choudhary President Jatt Sabha, Anoop Mittal, Secretary Aggarwal Sabha, Rajeev Chuni, President SOS, Virender Jain, Jain Sabha and Bishen Singh, Rajput Sabha. One by one each one of them welcomed the recent judgement of the Division Bench of the J&K High Court, quashing reservation in promotion, expressed their appreciation for the judicial system of the country for upholding the constitution and safeguarding justice and equality. They further said that this judgment was another major step in this direction as it had brought a new lease of life to the general categories, which otherwise had been deprived of their constitutional right of getting equal and fair treatment for advancement of their careers through deserved promotions. The speakers stressed that this judgment should be appreciated by one and all, as it has removed the menace of illegal and unjust promotions which had adversely affected the psyche of the general categories'" as they had to suffer the agony and pain of seeing their reserved category juniors marching past them, in spite of already having conceded almost 50% of posts to them at the initial appointment level. The Speakers highlighted that the general categories in J&K have never been against reservation in appointment as provided by the Indian Constitution but had been forced to approach the judiciary against the illegal and unconstitutional provision of Reservation in Promotions, which has since been struck down by the High Court. |
