Samba boys win opening tie in State Volleyball

AKHNOOR, Nov 30: District Samba boys made a winning start beating Shopian in straight sets of 25-20, 25-18) in the three-day 27th J&K State Volleyball (boys and girls) Championship, organised by Volleyball Association of J&K in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council at Government Boys Higher Secondary School grounds, here today.
Earlier, the competition was declared open by chief guest, Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Akhnoor, Rajiv Sharma amidst interactions with 15 participating teams of Poonch, Rajouri, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Jammu, Ramban, Srinagar, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Pulwama, Budgam, Baramulla, Shopian and Bandipora.
The MLA expressed his pleasure to see the participating teams from Kashmir valley at Akhnoor. He hailed the initiatives of the organisers in channelising energies of youth towards national reconstruction and extended all cooperation from his side for such events in future.
He said that youth of the state have enormous potential which needs to be explored and nurtured in the right direction and the efforts are underway to provide environment to channelise energy of youth towards nation building. He complemented the players for taking part in the tournament and wished them success.
Prominent among those present were president of the Association, Sidharth Daluja, executive vice president, HS Gill, vice president, Raj Guru, Chief Executive Officer, Kuldip Magotra, general secretary VK Magotra, treasurer RC Sharma, Principal Government Boys Higher Secondary School Akhnoor, Baljeet Singh, Principal Government Girls Higher Secondary School Akhnoor, Ashok Sharma and Principal Chanderbagha High School, Akhnoor, Pawan Bhardwaj as also Madan Lal Gupta, Madan Kapoor, K.C Bhagat, Raj Pal, Bittu Pansari and Shiv Saraf.
Today's matches were officiated by the technical penal comprising Amarjeet Singh, Mulkh Raj Sharma, Neeraj Sharma (VFI qualified referees), Wasim Raja, Amit Sharma, Ilyas khan, Shafqat, Azhar Aziz, Naresh Sharma, Imtiaz and Akbar Ali.
