SRINAGAR, Nov 30: The Association of Hotel and Restaurant Operators of Lal Chowk (AHROL) today demanded that state government should take immediate measures so that tourists come to Kashmir valley and visit the commercial hub of Lal Chowk as well.
During an interaction with media, AHROL Chairman, Siraj Ahmad said that government should ensure that all facilities are in place so that tourists come to Kashmir. Siraj said that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) government in the state has failed to address the genuine demands of tourism community in the valley.
"For a successful tourist season it is important that round the clock power supply is made available to the people coming to Kashmir. There can't be any compromise on this and the state government should come up with a concrete plan in this regard. We have to make the stay of tourists comfortable in Kashmir and same is not possible without giving them 24 hour power supply," said Siraj.
The AHROL chairman said that since the winter has already set in the state government should redouble its efforts with regard to the snow clearance in Kashmir more so at tourist places like Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg. He said since Lal Chowk is frequented by tourists the snow should be cleared on war footing in the summer capital of the state once there is snowfall.
'The drainage system in Lal Chowk is in shambles and the drains get choked every now and then. Although the present state government is 10 months old still then no steps have been taken to improve the drainage system in Lal Chowk. It is imperative upon the local MLA to come up to the expectations of people more so traders so that corrective action is taken," said Siraj.
The AHROL chairman while referring to the recent disruption in air traffic at Srinagar airport due to fog said that connectivity with Kashmir has to be improved at various levels and that government should evolve a mechanism in this regard. He said the people who intend to visit Kashmir should be able to move to different tourist destinations without any problem whatsoever.
Siraj said that state government should think over the plan of action to be adopted so that Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) are set up for the hotels located in the Lal Chowk area. He acknowledged the fact that Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Association (KHARA) has failed to project the demands of the hoteliers of the Kashmir valley. He said that AHROL would not sit back and pressurize the state government so that demands of hoteliers are met.
