Funding module of LeT busted, fake currency, arms and ammunition recovered | | | S.Tahir-ul Haq Early Times Report BARAMULLA, Dec 1: Security forces on Tuesday busted a funding module of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit after a man was nabbed with fake Indian currency of the face value of Rs 45, 000 was recovered from him in Baramulla district of North Kashmir. A senior police official said, "Acting on specific information, a joint team of 52 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Kreeri police launched a search operation at Chandkoot crossing on Baramulla-Srinagar national highway. "In a major blow to the militant outfit, funding module was busted in Baramulla district, where one person was apprehended after a brief pursuit and Rs 45, 000 of fake Indian currency was recovered from him," the official said. The official said that, "The individual has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmed Dar, a resident of Reinj, adding that during the questioning, Aijaz Ahmed Dar, also a resident of Rinji who was the next link in the chain, was also nabbed. "Mushtaq Dar revealed the involvement of Mohammad Yusuf Chopan, who had been receiving the fake Indian currency from Bangladesh for subsequent conversion into genuine currency and funding of LeT in north Kashmir," official said. Official said that, Dar was in the process of developing a module for LeT in Pattan area of Baramulla district. However further investigations are likely to reveal more names. Meanwhile, a joint team of Army and police today recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition and other war like store from a hideout in border village of Uri in Baramulla district. A senior police official said that, "Acting on a specific intelligence, Army's 46 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and police launched a search operation in the forests of Peerniya village and busted a hideout there. A huge quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered in the forest area of Garberwar near Peerniya village in Baramulla district, the official said. The cache of war like store including UBGL 1, 56 rounds, RPG rounds 13 and 43 boosters, motor bombs 17, hand grenades 2, Chinese pistol 3 and 11 magazines, AK-47 magazines 3, 1000 rounds of AK-47 50 rounds of Pika Rifle and 2 radio sets beside some clothing items, the official added. |
