After receiving complaints from common masses about substandard nature of Ayurvedic medicines prescribed in Government and privately run Hospitals of Kashmir, Early times while digging the root cause of problem learned from credible sources that a Mafia supplying substandard Ayurvedic medicines has dominated this field over the years with impunity. A senior Doctor also member of a Group of Doctors running Private Ayurvedic Hospitals in Kashmir told Early Times that around 40 % Ayurvedic Medicines supplied to Jammu and Kashmir from outside states like Delhi, Hyderabad, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab are of substandard nature. "There is no GMP certification of Ayurvedic Medicines supplied to our state, no categorization like we have generic and ethical categorization in English system of medicine, Mafia supplying substandard medicines here use money as a strong tool to pass all barriers confronting supply of Substandard medicines to whole Jammu and Kashmir state," a group of Doctors said, wishing anonymity They said that Ayurvedic medicine system saw an abrupt growth of around 80% in past five years across Jammu and Kashmir and the reason behind more people getting involved with this business with each passing day like running clinics, Shops and small outlets is only because a Mafia offers them huge margins out of selling substandard Ayurvedic medicines to common masses. It does not stop here; one Nodal officer posted in a government run Ayurvedic Hospital on the condition of anonymity said that around 4% Ayurvedic Medicines particularly in tablet form supplied to Government Ayurvedic Hospitals are also of substandard nature. He said that there is not a single testing laboratory available in Jammu and Kashmir to check nature of Ayurvedic medicines supplied to government Hospitals and ultimately mafia dealing with this business enjoys carelessness of Authorities to fetch crores of rupees in their annual turn out.
"After receiving complaints from patients about not prescribing them medicines which could work on diseases quickly, me and my colleagues at our own level, based on our own experiences and Knowledge have find out that some Medicines mostly supplied in tablet form are of substandard nature and contain 0% medicine composition in them to treat a particular disease," one Doctor Posted in a Government Hospital said. One noted Dealer on Ayurvedic Medicines informed Early Times that around 80% Ayurvedic medicines of different companies reached to Jammu and Kashmir for the first time in past five years and replaced some trusted brands of unani and Ayurvedic medicines like "Hamdard" within days of time. Pertinently different markets of Kashmir in past few years abruptly saw tremendous increase in private Ayurvedic Hospitals and Clinics claiming to "treat" patients with Ayurvedic medicines without Side effects. When contacted Director Ayurvedic system of Medicines, Dr Abdul Kabir said that he is not responsible for what is selling in Markets in the name of Ayurvedic medicines, but if any Doctor from government Hospitals claim supply of substandard medicines, he should come with proof so that action can be taken.
