Senior Cong leader under scanner for 2014 Assembly polls fiasco
12/2/2015 12:02:24 AM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Dec 1: Even as a senior Congress leader is avoiding publicity in order to hide his growing inclination towards the rulin party the Congress has put him under scanner for the "dubious" role he played in the 2014 Assembly elections to support the rival party.
Sources said prompted by volley of verbal complaints, the Congress high command has sought a detailed representation from the party's state chapter to decide his fate. The Congress leadership has got credible inputs that the leader not only is planning to join PDP but in the last year Assembly elections he "overtly and covertly" remained more concerned towards the victory of the rival party.
What raises suspicion over the leader's conduct is primarily the security and related services he is blessed with by the ruling coalition.
Though most of the security allotted to the JKPCC President GA Mir and other Congress leaders has been shun by the PDP-led government, the leader continues to enjoy even better facilities. "Mir Sahib's security has been considerably reduced and he has been left with an old Ambassador car, which is too decayed for any travel whereas he (the leader in question) continues to drive in new bullet proof Scorpio whereas his escort has been improved in the last few months... How can he enjoy better facilities than our party president if he's not hand in glove with PDP?" asked a senior party leader. The Congress leaders from Kashmir recently held a closed-door meeting here seeking probe into allotment of party tickets in the last elections to "non-performing faces."
The leader is accused of having promoted less credible faces in the Assembly elections to benefit PDP.
Citing examples, the party leadership said, "Aamir Rasool an inexperienced young face into party was made to contest against Altaf Bukhari from Amira Kadal constituency whereas Congress leader Ambreen Badr was not given the mandate though she had been working in the constituency for over a decade."
Another big surprise had come from Zadibal constituency when the prominent leader from the area, Irfan Naqeeb who enjoyed good rapport among the locals was not given the mandate. Instead "little known" Shamima Raina was given the ticket.
Amid this all Congress was badly defeated in Kashmir.
"Given the security he enjoys and relation the leader has developed with PDP, things have got clear," the Congress leaders said.
The leader, as per insiders, is often seen close to a Cabinet minister from PDP. It's being believed that the same PDP leader has been enjoying cordial relations with the leader the past over a year.
A senior leader said the file in this regard was being prepared and would be sent to the party high command Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi. "Rahul Ji is already aware of the role played by the leader to ensure Congress debacle in the previous assembly elections. Now we have demanded a formal action," the party insiders said. The Congress leaders from Kashmir look at the leader as "opportunist" who wants to maintain good relations with his own party and the rivals, alike. "He wants to have the cake and it too. This attitude is intolerable in Congress and thus we have decided to pick up the matter with the party high command," the Congress leader told Early Times.
