Early Times Report

JAMMU, Dec 20 : Patron of PDP and J&K CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Saturday cleared all the confusions and set the record straight as far as the attitude of his party and the BJP towards Article 370 and the state's special status was concerned. Addressing senior party leaders, including Ministers, legislators and office-bearers at day-long party meeting at Banquet Hall, Srinagar, which had been called to review party's preparations for upcoming Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Panchayat elections, he without mincing words said that the PDP and the BJP were on the same page as far as their stand on Article 370 and the special status the state enjoys under this legislation.
"His biggest achievement has been to make a national party and that too a right wing organization like BJP to understand the idea of maintaining special status of J&K and need to preserve it with an assurance that no constitutional provision of the state will be touched," he said, and added that "it was for the first time that a right wing national party has realized the need to preserve special status of the State".
"They (the BJP leadership) have categorically asserted that they will not touch any constitutional provision of J&K. In fact, they have guaranteed special status of the State," he further said to make his point in a reference to the BJP's decision not to touch Article 370 of the Constitution of India, which grants special status to the state., The Chief Minister also used the opportunity to appreciate the change of heart on the part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also commended BJP veteran and former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, saying both the leaders understood the aspirations of the people of Kashmir.
If the Chief Minister hailed the BJP national leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Atal Behari Vajpayee and the spirit of accommodation as exhibited by the BJP during the days when power-sharing formula was discussed by the two parties that led to the formation of the coalition government in J&K last March, his daughter and party president Mehbooba Mufti commended the BJP ministers in the coalition government and commended their performance and their commitment to coalition dharma.
Hailing the BJP ministers, Mehbooba Mufti claimed that "this is the best ever council of ministers in the state". "The BJP Ministers are working with full dedication and devotion under the command of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed," she said, and added that "the BJP has been upholding the `coalition dharma". Mehb-ooba Mufti co-chaired the important meeting with her father.
What the Chief Minister and the PDP president said about the BJP and its change stand on Article 370 and the state's special status clearly suggested that both the parties had been working in perfect unison.
The message from Srinagar was loud and clear and the message was that the BJP of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah was not the BJP of Syama Prasad Mookerjee.
