| Kashmir based BJP leaders gear up to 'sell dreams' | | Forthcoming ULB Elections | | Want high command to forget party scored zero in LA polls

Srinagar, Dec 20: As the elections for Urban Local Bodies in Jammu and Srinagar look inevitable, political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, are asking their cadres to get ready and ensure the victory of their respective parties.
On Saturday the Deputy Chief Minister announced that polls for Urban Local Bodies would be held soon. He called on the BJP cadres to get ready for the "litmus test."
Sources told Early Times that BJP leaders in Kashmir believe that forthcoming ULB elections would provide them with a chance to once again get close to the party high command and show the leaders "big dreams" about BJP having gained ground in Kashmir. "Kashmir based BJP leaders want the party high command to forget that party failed to open its account in the Valley in 2014. Assembly elections despite huge money being pumped into the state through various channels," they added.
Insiders revealed that BJP high command has made it clear to the Kashmir based leaders that this time around "no excuses" would be entertained and they have to ensure that party makes its presence felt in Kashmir.
Referring to the BJP electing new president in Jammu and Kashmir, the source said, "The Member Parliament and senior party leader Jugal Kishore Sharma not getting the second term as the President is a clear message to all the party leaders that no one is indispensable."
He said BJP opening its account in Kashmir is a challenge for the new party president Sat Sharma. "The forthcoming ULB polls would be crucial for Sat Sharma and he has to ensure that he comes up with a proper picture rather than getting swayed away by the ambitious promises which Kashmir based leaders would make before the elections are held," the source added.
A BJP leader while talking to Early Times said, "Party had to pay a heavy price for setting up Mission 44 plus as its target in 2014 assembly polls. Kashmir based leaders had assured the party high command that BJP would easily win 10 to 15 seats in Kashmir but it didn't happen. If we decide to contest the ULB polls on our own then we have to make sure that party breaks the jinx and makes its entry into Kashmir. We cannot afford to draw blank from Kashmir this time around."
It's in place to mention here that BJP had set up its secret office in a posh colony near Srinagar Airport ahead of 2014 assembly polls and it's believed that many people had turned up to help the party's cause in lieu for money. However, BJP failing to open its account in Kashmir proved a "big disappointment" for the party leadership.
Sources claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had spearheaded the BJP campaign in Kashmir on the assurances of the top party leaders, who had ostensibly told the Prime Minister that BJP is in a strong position. "Despite BJP winning 25 seats in the assembly polls in Jammu region Prime Minister Modi was unhappy with the leadership for providing him with a wrong feedback," they added.
Sources claimed that BJP top brass has made it clear to the local leaders that forthcoming ULB polls are purely a local affair and they should prove their worth by ensuring that BJP makes its debut in Kashmir. |
