SVC directs VO to probe into embezzlement of mid day meal funds | | | Jammu, Feb 5 : The state vigilance commission (SVC) has directed the vigilance Organization to start a preliminary inquiry into large scale embezzlement in mid day meal funds allegedly by some officials of the education department in Baramulla district. Earlier, while proceeding on a complaint regarding allegations against some officials of education department for commission of gross irregularities and misappropriation of funds of mid day meals scheme in different schools of education zone, Boniyar, Baramulla, SVC ordered an inquiry and summoned a report in this regard from the additional deputy commissioner (ADC), Baramulla. Scrutiny of reports of ADC, CEO and deputy CEO of Baramulla prima-facie disclosed that during 2013-14, mid day meal funds of Rs 71,32,900 were shown credited in the Boniyar branch of J&K Bank but only Rs 15,20,000 were utilized for the said scheme. Cheques were drawn in the names of different persons and shown further transferred to various accounts sans maintaining any records thereof. The report divulged that funds were allegedly drawn dishonestly against fictitious enrolment of students which tantamounts to the abuse of official position and criminal breach of trust on the part of dealing hands and warrants in-depth investigation into the matter in order to expose the delinquents involved. SVC, while looking into the gravity of the acquisitions levelled and the casual approach adopted by the directorate of school education, Kashmir, directed VO to initiate a preliminary inquiry in the matter to bring the truth to fore so that the officials found involved in the scam were dealt under law.
