Early Times Report

Srinagar, Feb 6: After returning from Jammu on Friday, the PDP leaders Saturday started meeting the party President Mehbooba Mufti at her Fair View residence in Srinagar. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti returned to Kashmir on Friday after winding up her three-day Jammu visit where she met senior BJP leaders and chaired meetings of her party leaders after meeting Governor N N Vohra at Rajbhavan on February 2.
While on Saturday, she started meeting the party leaders to take them on board over government formation in the state. "Like in Jammu, Mehbooba has been making the party leaders aware in Srinagar about what transpired between her and Governor N N Vohra in a meeting and with BJP leader Nirmal Singh," a senior PDP leader said. "Although party has authorized her to take any call over government formation but she is still seeking feedback from each party leader." Mehbooba has indicated that she was not eager on government formation and announced that her party would soon launch a state-wide membership drive.
The PDP President along with Muzaffar Beigh met Governor on Tuesday at Rajbhawan Jammu. During the meeting sources said Mehbooba Mufti had told Governor N N Vohra that New Delhi should initiate state-specific Confidence Building Measures before she thinks of forming the new government.
While the BJP has sought 10 days for government formation, the PDP president maintained her party has no trust-deficit with BJP, "but Government of India should start CBMs due to the complex situation of the state." Sources said the PDP is waiting response from the BJP central leadership especially Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "Once the PDP gets response from BJP, the PDP will convene a meeting of legislators and other leaders to take final call over government formation," sources said.
There seems no end in political stalemate over government formation in Jammu and Kashmir, Governor N N Vohra Thursday appointed two retired IAS officers as his advisors. Since January 9, the state is under the Governor Rule following demise of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and the PDP-BJP have so far failed to reach on consensus over government formation.
