Ram Madhav to visit J&K, resume dialogue with PDP
2/6/2016 11:29:52 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Feb 6: In a bid to end deadlock over formation of government in Jammu and Kashmir, senior Bharatiya Janta Party leader and National General Secretary of the party Ram Madhav, is all set to visit Kashmir next week, to hold fresh round of talks with Peoples Democratic Party.
Highly placed sources said the BJP top brass including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah have arrived to the conclusion that its "inexperienced" state chapter was in no position to hold talks with ally PDP over continuation of the coalition government and that the only person appropriate for the job was Ram Madhav.
Sources said Madhav's name figured after consultation with the top brass, who resolved that "let's not lose the historic opportunity" to rule Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP is understood to have observed that despite terror strikes, the central government did its best to improve ties with Pakistan only so that Jammu and Kashmir remained peaceful for smooth running of the government.
Madhav, who has earlier also remained the BJP point man over forging of alliance in J&K, has been formally assigned the task to end the stalemate, which threw the state into Governor's rule on January 9.
Sources said Madhav would arrive in Kashmir after holding discussions with the state chapter of the party in Jammu. He is likely to hold another one on one talks with the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and agree to some of her demands.
It is being believed that the party has taken serious note of "immature statements" made by the BJP leaders in Jammu over government formation and that their "insensitive remarks" festered relations between the allies. "The role of the state chapter of the BJP leaders has been negative as they couldn't maintain cordial relations with the regional ally and the result is that the national leadership has to personally guide them on each and every step," the sources said.
They said the role of the BJP leaders from Jammu and Kashmir had been so embarrassing that they couldn't even properly condole the demise of the then Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed. "When Mufti Sahib's mortal remains were taken to Bijebehara for burial, Lal Singh (one of our ministers in the then cabinet ) was caught posing for photographs in the Aurangzeb Park there," admitted a senior BJP leader.
Though the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has been reluctant over government formation, the BJP does not want to miss the opportunity of running the government in Jammu and Kashmir, the state it never ruled before.
"We were well aware of the reality that the performance of our (BJP) ministers wasn't satisfactory in the last ten months of governance and thus we had been preparing for a major overhaul in the month of March when the government would complete its one year in the office... But unfortunately before that, Mufti Sahib breathed his last and the government collapsed," the sources told Early Times.
The sources said the party badly looks ahead for continuation of alliance so that air is cleared over role of BJP in Jammu. "We want to prove before the people of Jammu that they had not voted for a wrong party. But the key to this lies with the continuation of the alliance so that we can clear the misconceptions," the BJP insiders said.
