RSS hardens stand, says PDP should understand ground realities
J&K Constitution anti-women

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 6: A significant political development took place in Jammu on Friday. The case in point is the hard stand that a senior RSS leader and former Pranatiya Pracharak Indresh Kumar took in Jammu. Indresh Kumar reached Jammu in the afternoon and participated in a couple of events.
While addressing women activists belonging to the Sangh Parivar or supporters of the RSS, Indresh Kumar termed the Jammu and Kashmir Constitution "anti-women" and spoke against Article 35-A of the Indian Constitution, which debars all the non-state subjects from enjoying any citizenship rights in the state.
Jammu and Kashmir Constitution of 1957 is a replica of the Pakistan Constitution, he said, and added, and very rightly, that women in Pakistan do not enjoy equal rights with men. "In Pakistan, the witness of two women is equal to the witness of a man. Similarly in J&K, women are treated inferior to men," he reportedly said.
By opposing the Jammu and Kashmir Constitution or by equating it with that of Pakistan and also by batting for equal rights of women with men in the state, Indresh Kumar virtually attacked the Kashmir-based parties, including the PDP and the NC, which stand for the state's special status and also want Article 35-A and Article 370 to be made permanent features of the Indian Constitution.
The children of the daughters of the state married outside the state to non-state subjects cannot inherit their mothers' property in Jammu and Kashmir. Nor do they have the right to purchase immovable property in the state or obtain jobs under the state government.
The RSS leader not only opposed Article 370 and Article 35-A, but he also criticized the PDP for setting pre-conditions for the government formation in Jammu and Kashmir and went to the extent of saying that the BJP will not compromise the interests of the nationalist people of Jammu and Kashmir for enjoying political power.
"It is the trust and not the conditions which are the foundations of a strong relation. Instead of setting conditions, there is a need to develop trust and faith. One thing is very much clear that the BJP will not compromise on any condition which is against the wishes and aspirations of the nationalist people of J&K…There is no question of compromising on the national interest just for enjoying power in Jammu and Kashmir," he was quoted as saying. He also reportedly said: "One should not undermine the sacrifices of the BJP in J&K. Since 1947, the BJP and other affiliated organizations have been working for the integration and development of the state so people of Jammu and Kashmir are very much aware of the policies and programmes of the party".
The stand Indresh Kumar took was highly significant in the sense that he directly opposed the PDP-BJP Agenda of Alliance and those in the RSS and the BJP who had been trying very hard to win over the PDP leadership so that both the parties again form government in the state. His stand would surely upset the applecart of those in the BJP and the RSS who want the PDP-BJP coalition in place at the earliest, as they want to enjoy loaves and fishes of office.
