Early Times Report
Srinagar, Feb 6: The PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has reportedly made up her mind to call it off a day and opt for fresh elections in the state, PDP sources told Early Times on Saturday.
They said the PDP chief is holding hectic deliberations with her party cadre in this regard and wants to take them into confidence before she takes the final decision.
The PDP insiders revealed that Mehbooba is likely to meet the Governor NN Vohra soon and inform him about the party's decision to say goodbye to BJP.
The PDP chief, according to the sources, is keen to prepare her party for the fresh elections in the state, believing the party would be able to sweep the polls, if held in near future. However, sources divulged that there are several senior party leaders who are not in favour of fresh polls in Jammu and Kashmir. "They are of the opinion that party may lose some seats if it opts for the midterm polls," insiders revealed.
They claimed that some party leaders believe that the PDP needs to do more groundwork ahead of meeting Governor NN Vohra with the request to hold fresh polls in the state.
Sources privy to the latest developments reveal that there is one more lot in the PDP which is favouring that PDP should continue its alliance with BJP.
Reports said that as the PDP chief has made up her mind for the fresh polls, she wants more time to go public over it. And, as sources put it, she wants to take into confidence those party leaders who oppose the fresh polls in the state.
The meeting earlier convened by the PDP hinted at the membership drive instead of any decision vis-a-vis the present deadlock and the government formation in the state. "There are certain sections within the party which are in favour of continuing the coalition with the BJP," sources said, "They need to be taken into confidence before the party takes its final decision," sources said.
Meanwhile, hectic parleys are presently being held within the PDP to take care of the disgruntled voices. "Party will exhibit an unanimous face before the masses ahead of meeting the Governor NN Vohra in the near future," insiders claimed.
The Governor NN Vohra appointing Parvez Devan and Khurshid Ganaie as his advisors is an indication of the fact that Governor's rule is going to last in the state.
Appointment of advisors indicates that PDP chief hasn't given her consent to the Governor N N Vohra for PDP planning to re-enter into alliance with the BJP in near future.
A recent news report carried by a national newspaper claimed that about 24 PDP leaders, 18 MLAs and four MLCs, think that the mood in the Valley is against PDP's alliance with BJP. They boycotted the party's meeting held on January 17, 2016 when Mehbooba Mufti was authorized to take a final call on government formation.
Reports said that the leaders like Tariq Hameed Karra, PDP founder member, and former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Beigh, both party MPs in the Lok Sabha, have been urging Mehbooba not to re-enter into an alliance with the BJP in the larger interest of the PDP and Kashmir.
