JKBWA urges SWD to submit memorandum to Governor

Jammu, Feb 7 : The Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association today urged Social Welfare Department to submit memorandum to Governor NN Vohra.
According to press release, the meeting was held under the leadership of Sub. Maj. Romesh Sargotra. During meeting they discussed various issues of the Batwal community members.
Association President Ex MLAs Sat Paul Lakhotra urged the Commissioner Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Social Welfare Department to have the memorandum of Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association (forwarded to him by the Chief Minister's Secretariat vide communication dated 01 Jan 2016) analysed at his earliest convenience and submit the analytical opinion to the Governor N.N.Vohrafor taking further necessary action in the matter. They also paid tributes to RohithVemula, a Dalit Ph.D Scholar of Central University of Hyderabad, who committed suicide on Jan17, 2016 after a controversy which extended over several months starting in July 2015 when the University stopped paying him the fellowship of 25,000 rupees per month and expelled him from the hostel.
They further criticised the University authorities by saying that elite educational institutions have purportedly been seen as an enduring vestige of caste-based discrimination against students belonging to lower classes.
Prominent among others who attended the meeting included Association Chief Advisor Ramesh Kumar Kaith, GuruGyagi Foundation President Sub. Baldev Chand Sandhu, Capt. Kamal Chand Mota, Sub. Maj. Gunni Ram Kaitha and Sub. Maj. Thoru Ram Mandi.
